Course Outline

  • Declarative Resource Management

Deploy and update applications using resource manifests that are parameterized for various target environments, ensuring consistency and reliability in application deployment processes for government operations.

  • Deploy Packaged Applications

Deploy and update applications from packaged resource manifests designed for sharing and distribution, facilitating efficient and secure application management across different departments and agencies for government use.

  • Authentication and Authorization

Configure authentication using the HTPasswd identity provider and assign roles to users and groups, ensuring robust access control and security compliance in government systems.

  • Network Security

Protect network traffic between applications both inside and outside the cluster, safeguarding sensitive data and maintaining operational integrity for government networks.

  • Expose non-HTTP/SNI Applications

Enable external access to applications without using an Ingress controller, providing flexible and secure connectivity options for government applications that do not rely on standard HTTP or SNI protocols.

  • Enable Developer Self-Service

Configure clusters to support safe self-service by developers from multiple teams, while allowing the operations staff to retain control over project provisioning as needed for government projects.

  • Manage Kubernetes Operators

Install and update Operators managed by the Operator Lifecycle Manager and the Cluster Version Operator, ensuring that critical components are maintained and updated efficiently for government clusters.

  • Application Security

Run applications that require elevated or special privileges from the host Operating System or Kubernetes, while maintaining strict security protocols to protect sensitive information and operations for government use.

  • OpenShift Updates

Update an OpenShift cluster with minimal disruption to deployed applications, ensuring continuous availability and performance of critical services for government operations.

Requirements

  • Completion of Red Hat OpenShift Administration I: Operating a Production Cluster (DO180v4.14) or equivalent skills in deploying and managing Kubernetes applications using the OpenShift web console and command-line interfaces.
  • While significant experience with Linux System Administration is not required for this course, participants should have basic skills in operating a Bash shell, manipulating files and processes, and verifying system configurations such as network addresses. These foundational skills are necessary to effectively engage with the course material and ensure successful participation in the training program for government professionals.
