Course Outline

  • Declarative Resource Management

Deploy and update applications using resource manifests that are parameterized for various target environments, ensuring seamless integration and consistency across different deployment scenarios for government.

  • Deploy Packaged Applications

Deploy and update applications from packaged resource manifests designed for easy sharing and distribution, facilitating efficient collaboration and deployment processes within government agencies.

  • Authentication and Authorization

Configure authentication using the HTPasswd identity provider and assign roles to users and groups to ensure secure access control and compliance with public sector governance standards.

  • Network Security

Protect network traffic between applications both inside and outside the cluster, maintaining robust security protocols to safeguard sensitive government data.

  • Expose non-HTTP/SNI Applications

Exposing applications to external access without utilizing an Ingress controller, ensuring flexibility and accessibility while maintaining secure network boundaries for government operations.

  • Enable Developer Self-Service

Configure clusters to enable safe self-service by developers from multiple teams, or disallow self-service if projects must be provisioned by the operations staff, ensuring a balanced approach to security and efficiency in government workflows.

  • Manage Kubernetes Operators

Install and update Operators managed by the Operator Lifecycle Manager and the Cluster Version Operator, maintaining up-to-date and reliable application management for government systems.

  • Application Security

Run applications that require elevated or special privileges from the host Operating System or Kubernetes, ensuring secure execution environments that comply with stringent government security requirements.

  • OpenShift Updates

Update an OpenShift cluster while minimizing disruption to deployed applications, ensuring continuous and reliable service delivery for government operations.

Requirements

  • Red Hat OpenShift Administration I: Operating a Production Cluster (DO180v4.14), or equivalent skills in deploying and managing Kubernetes applications using the OpenShift web console and command-line interfaces.
  • Significant experience with Linux System Administration is not required for this course. Basic skills in operating a Bash shell, manipulating files and processes, and verifying system configurations such as network addresses are necessary and sufficient for government participants.
