Day 1: Cloud Foundations and Core Services

Part I: Cloud Architecture Foundations

  1. Core principles of cloud architecture and non-functional requirements, including availability, scalability, security, and performance
  2. Cloud adoption models and associated trade-offs: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and shared responsibility
  3. Azure architectural components: Regions, Resource Groups, and Resources
  4. Designing for mission-critical architecture and defining disaster recovery targets (RTO, RPO)

Part II: Core Cloud Services

  1. Storage and data fundamentals: Azure Table Storage and Azure Cosmos DB
  2. Compute and container platforms: Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Azure Container Registry (ACR)
  3. Relational data and messaging systems: Azure SQL Database and Azure Service Bus
  4. Practical exercises for each service: configuration, deployment, and evaluation against availability, performance, security, and pricing criteria
  5. Infrastructure as Code using Bicep for establishing reproducible environments

Day 2: Architecture Leadership and Clean Architecture

Part III: The Architect

  1. Definitions of software architecture and key architectural viewpoints
  2. The roles, responsibilities, and decision-making authority of the software architect
  3. Developing architecture specifications and communicating effectively with both technical and business stakeholders
  4. A practical pathway to becoming an effective software architect

Part IV: Managing Dependencies in Monoliths

  1. Clean Architecture principles: separation of concerns, dependency direction, and long-term maintainability
  2. Strategic selection of cloud services for monolithic modernization, weighing advantages and disadvantages
  3. Practical lab: design and deploy a Clean Architecture solution in Azure using .NET

Day 3: Domain Driven and Distributed Architectures

Part V: DDD, CQRS, and Event Sourcing

  1. Domain-Driven Design fundamentals: domain boundaries, ubiquitous language, and model-driven design
  2. CQRS and Event Sourcing concepts for managing complex and evolving business domains
  3. Architectural patterns employed in DDD-based cloud solutions
  4. Practical lab: applying Event Sourcing as a requirements-driven design technique (from requirements to events, aggregates, and event flows)

Part VI: Microservices

  1. Microservices architecture principles and trade-offs in distributed systems
  2. Selecting cloud services for microservices-based solutions, considering strengths and limitations
  3. Synchronous and asynchronous communication styles in microservices, including reliability patterns such as circuit breakers and resilience strategies
  4. Testability in microservices and CI/CD: contract testing, integration testing boundaries, automated quality gates, and deployment confidence
  5. Practical lab: design and deploy microservices in Azure using .NET

Requirements

  • Familiarity with an advanced programming language (C# or Java)
  • Basic knowledge of the covered architecture styles
  • Foundational experience with cloud services
  • Minimum 5 years of software engineering experience
