Course Outline

The Better Business Cases training and certification program is based on HM Treasury’s Green Book, which provides central government guidance on appraising and evaluating policies, programs, and projects. It also utilizes the Five Case Model, a structured approach to making informed decisions.

NobleProg is authorized to deliver accredited training and is an approved Accredited Training Organisation for APMG International’s Better Business Cases Foundation and Practitioner levels.

Six Key Areas:

  1. Overview of the Five Case Model
  2. Developing the Strategic Case
  3. Developing the Economic Case
  4. Developing the Commercial Case
  5. Developing the Financial Case
  6. Developing the Management Case

Learning Outcomes:

Understand the structure and key terminology of the Five Case Model. Specifically, participants will gain knowledge in:

  • The philosophy and underlying rationale of the Five Case Model.
  • Different types of business cases, their purpose, responsible parties, and when they are required in developing a spending proposal.
  • The development of business cases in relation to other recognized best practices for program and project management.

  • Multiple Choice
  • 50 questions
  • 25 marks or more required to pass (out of 50 available) - 50%
  • 40 minutes duration (taken on Day 2 for in-person training and at your convenience if delivered as online, instructor-led)
  • Closed book

Target Audience:

Better Business Cases training and certification is applicable to individuals involved with, or overseeing, projects for government, including:

  • Senior executives responsible for delivering value for money from the organization’s investments in change and achieving the organization’s strategic objectives
  • Project managers and team members tasked with developing a business case for investment
  • Officers and managers involved in the scrutiny and review of investment proposals
