Course Outline
Introduction
Data management involves the processes of storing and processing data. In the context of government operations, data management can take on a much larger dimension. The volume of data and the speed at which it must be processed, secured, shared, analyzed, and managed are critical for government.
This course is designed for entry-level engineers in government agencies. It provides an overview of the technologies, tools, architectures, and design methodologies used to manage large volumes of data for government. The curriculum covers both traditional forms of data storage, such as relational databases, and newer, less structured approaches.
The course compares traditional file systems with distributed file systems and examines the differences between traditional server architecture and clustered server architecture, all within the context of managing and processing big data across distributed systems for government.
Participants will engage in hands-on exercises and tests, followed by coaching from the instructor and group discussions to reinforce learning.
Major topics will include:
Hadoop
MS SQL
Oracle
Exadata
Data Hub
