Overview

Regulators worldwide are progressively aligning institutional risk exposure with mandatory capital retention. Consequently, financial institutions are adopting risk-based management practices to enhance accountability. As banking products, regulatory mandates, and global markets grow in complexity, effective risk management becomes increasingly challenging. A critical insight from recent banking crises is that risks are deeply interconnected; efficient oversight requires institutions to understand these interactions thoroughly.

Key features include:

• An explanation of current risk-based regulatory standards
• A detailed analysis of the primary risks encountered by banks
• Industry best practices for implementing an enterprise-wide approach to integrated risk management
• The use of governance techniques to foster a collective culture where all personnel actively manage risks in alignment with strategic objectives
• An assessment of potential future challenges for risk managers

The course will utilize case studies extensively to investigate and reinforce the concepts presented over the five days. Historical examples from the banking sector will be examined to illustrate failures in risk management and to identify preventive measures that could have mitigated losses.

Ownership and accountability are fundamental to effective organizational management. Ownership entails assuming responsibility and initiative for assigned tasks, while accountability involves being answerable for the resulting outcomes. These principles are essential for government operations as they promote a culture of responsibility and reliability, leading to improved performance, robust problem-solving, and alignment with public sector goals.

The public has historically served as the primary beneficiary and driver of institutional success. However, the proliferation of digital networks and social platforms has fundamentally altered the operational landscape, diminishing traditional competitive edges and elevating the Customer Experience to a central pillar of strategic governance. In the current sector environment, service experience remains the most sustainable domain for differentiation.

To maintain effectiveness in this shifting digital environment, public agencies must employ appropriate skills, instruments, and methodologies to retain the customer experience at the core of their mission. The primary strategic objective is to accurately define the public’s perception of quality and deliver it with consistent efficiency and reliability.
