Course Outline

Day 1

Settling Down and Preparation Formalities

Preparation of materials, settling in of participants, and refreshments.

Module 1: My Confidence, My Stage

Understanding the significance of self-confidence in effective public speaking and personal expression for government professionals.

Activity 1: I am Me

Participants will have the opportunity to introduce themselves to the group, fostering confidence and enhancing self-esteem.

Module 2: The Power of Influence and Persuasion – How Will I Make People Listen?

A discussion on the importance of conveying ideas that influence, inspire, and capture attention for government communications.

Activity 2: The Blind Guide

In this activity, three participants from each group will attempt to build a tower of Lego or building blocks with alternating colors. Two team members will be blindfolded, while the third, who is not blindfolded, will provide verbal instructions. One blindfolded participant will construct the tower, and the other will relay the instructions.

Synthesis Session

A summary and discussion of the key takeaways from the previous session, emphasizing their relevance for government communication.

Module 3: Public Speaking and Its Structure

A detailed discussion on the structure of public speaking, preparation techniques, and essential considerations for effective delivery in a government context.

Activity 3: My Crazy Story

Participant groups will collaboratively create a story based on a single topic, enhancing their storytelling skills for government presentations.

Module 4: Construction and Delivery of the Speech

This session will focus on methods for structuring speech content, identifying effective delivery strategies, and personal preparation techniques for government speakers.

Final Synthesis and Assignment Delivery

Participants will be assigned one of several topics to discuss in a 5-10 minute presentation, tailored for government audiences.

Module 5: Merging Public Speaking and the Internet Superhighway
